Health Information Exchange Memberships - The SMHA Model

This video explains the membership model of the South Metro Health Alliance has formed its own Health Information Exchange.

The South Metro Health Alliance (Arapahoe and Douglas Counties in Colorado) has four types of memberships in it Health Information Exchange.

Community Based Organizations (CBOs)
Clinical Service Providers (CSPs)
Partners
Health and Wellness – Education Members

At the center of their model is the patient population.

South Metro Health Alliance (SMHA) - Colorado Health Information Exchange

The South Metro Health Alliance (SMHA) was formed by health care providers and service agencies in Arapahoe and Douglas counties of Colorado (with the exception of Aurora) with the mission of uniting the community for better access to health care for all.

The SMHA HIE Committee met for the first time on Thursday Feb 16, 2012 to discuss the role and purpose of the HIE Committee so as this is written they are in the mid-early stages of formation. The Health Information Exchange Committee has begun the process of planning how to best assure that HIE in the communities of Arapahoe (with the exception of Aurora) and Douglas counties becomes a reality, while guaranteeing complete compliance with all HIPAA and HITECH confidentiality and patient protection laws.
