Highmark is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association based in Pittsburgh and they just announced they are working with New York-based Verizon to construct a health information exchange. Insurance companies controlling health information exchanges is a major concern of mine. What do you think they are going to do with all that patient data?????????

Last week, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Health Information Organization submitted a proposal with the state’s Health Information Technology Coordinator’s Office presenting its plans to create a regional Health Information Exchange that would serve Philadelphia-area hospitals, doctors and other health-care providers.
